A 33-year-old male tourist from California, United States of America (USA), has died on the Larapinta Trail west of Alice Springs.

Senior Sergeant Michael Potts of the Southern Desert Division said police received a report at around 3.50pm yesterday afternoon, of a man having gone missing on the Larapinta Trail.

“NT Police from Southern Command with the assistance of Park Rangers responded to the call and initiated a search,” Senior Sergeant Potts said.

“At 5.00pm last night, the man was located deceased at the base of Mount Sonder.

“Investigations are ongoing, however police do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.”

The US Consulate has been advised.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
