Northern Territory police are investigating the death of a 32-year-old man near Ampilatwatja.

Senior Sergeant Michael Potts of the Southern Desert Division said police received a report on the morning of Saturday, 13 January that a man had failed to arrive at his intended destination.

“Police understand that the man departed Ampilatwatja in his vehicle on the evening of Wednesday, 10 January to travel to Murray Downs Station, however he failed to arrive,” he said.

“Police from Ali Curung conducted patrols in an attempt to locate the vehicle and the man, however these efforts were unsuccessful.

“Members from Arlparra and Tennant Creek also assisted with conducting enquiries into the man’s whereabouts.

“In the late afternoon of Saturday 13 January, police received reports that the man had been located deceased about 15 - 20km north of Ampilatwatja on the Murray Downs Road, by community members who were searching for him.

“A cause of death has not been determined and investigations are ongoing. Police are still trying to locate the man’s vehicle – a silver, 2000 Holden VX Commodore sedan, NT registration CC79JJ.”

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
