A man has been taken into custody in relation to an incident where a police officer was assaulted in Alice Springs yesterday.

Police were conducting foot patrols of the Todd Mall when they were notified of a man and a woman causing a disturbance, harassing and intimidating members of the public around 8pm.

It will be alleged on approaching the two, the man has become verbally aggressive towards police and continued disorderly behaviour. As Police have attempted to arrest the man, it will be alleged he has lunged at the officer and bitten the officer’s shoulder.

The Officer received minor injuries and bruising.

The 38-year-old man was subsequently arrested and charged with one count each of Disorderly Behaviour in a public place and Assault and will appear before the Alice Springs Local Court at a later date.
