A 55-year-old female pedestrian has been killed after being struck by a vehicle on Smith Street in Darwin this morning.

Police were notified just after midnight of the crash and despite the best efforts of responding emergency services the woman died at the scene.

Crash investigators later arrested a 64-year-old male and seized his taxi at the Darwin Airport.

Investigations are continuing.
