Arrests - Drug and Alcohol Offences - Katherine

Northern Territory Police have arrested two men for drug and alcohol offences approximately 107 kilometres west of Katherine.

The vehicle the men were travelling was apprehended by police on Victoria Highway around 12:45 yesterday afternoon.

Police commenced a search of the vehicle and located 26 cans of beer, a 2 litre wine cask, and a 700ml bottle of spirits.

Drug Detector Dog Hugo was deployed and as a result police located 248 grams of cannabis in clip seal bags. Members also seized a set of digital scales and two mobile phones from the vehicle.

It is believed the males intended to travel to Lajamanu to sell the cannabis and alcohol.

A 31-year-old male was charged with:

  • Possess Cannabis - Trafficable Quantity - Public Place
  • Supply Cannabis - less than commercial Quantity - Indigenous Community
  • Bring Liquor - Alcohol Protected Area
  • Cross Double White Lines
  • Fail to Produce Licence on Request
  • Drive Unregistered MV
  • Drive Uninsured MV

A 44-year-old male was charged with:

  • Possess Cannabis - Trafficable Quantity - Public Place
  • Supply Cannabis - less than commercial Quantity - Indigenous Community
  • Bring Liquor - Alcohol Protected Area
  • Possess Thing - Administer Dangerous Drug

Both males were remanded in custody to appear in Katherine Local Court on 23 August 2018.
