Northern Territory Police are investigating a fatal crash which occurred around 5:00 this morning on the Stuart Highway, approximately 10 kilometres south of Katherine.

It is believed a male motorcycle rider collided with a horse.

The male died at the scene.

The horse was euthanised.

Police remain on scene while investigations continue.

Motorists are advised that those travelling in light vehicles are able to move through the area. Heavy vehicles have been stopped and will not be able to travel north or south until the road has been reopened.

The death brings the 2018 road toll to 46.
