Three vehicles seized - Winnellie

Police

Three males have had their vehicles seized under anti-hooning legislation after allegedly racing each other in Winnellie on the weekend.

A static radar recorded the three Commodore sedans travelling at 156km/h, 165km/h and 176km/h on Bowen Street on Saturday night.

Two of the vehicles were apprehended by police, with the third failing to stop. The driver later returned to the location and to his fellow drivers, being his son and brother-in-law.

Senior Sergeant Angela Stringer said that it is sad that the message about being safe on the roads is not reaching some families.

“If this situation had resulted in a crash where members of this family were seriously injured or killed, the remaining family members would have to deal with that every day for the rest of their lives,” S/Sgt Stringer said.

“To be the one responsible for their own family member taking their last breath is a heavy weight to carry.

“What you consider a bit of fun for a few seconds could end up being the worst Christmas present.

“Please don’t let this be your family.”
