Northern Territory Police in Wadeye have arrested six people over a number of incidents in the region.

Local officers carried out a special operation to apprehend the offenders who were wanted in relation to a number of incidents under investigation.

As a result of the operation, police arrested six people on a range of charges, including property offences, breaching bail conditions or Domestic Violence Orders and aggravated assaults.

“These men were actively avoiding police after committing these crimes,” Acting Commander Warren Jackson said.

“The successful planning and work by those involved in the operation shows the community that those who hurt or steal from them will be held accountable.”

All six men were remanded in custody to face the Darwin Local Court at a later date.

Separately, in Millingimbi, officers have praised the efforts of the local community after a spate of break-ins overnight.

The group marched six youths – aged between 11 and 15 – to the local police station following a number of property offences overnight.

Three of the young people are considered suitable for youth diversion, one has been charged over the incidents and enquiries are ongoing in relation to the involvement of the other two.

“Northern Territory Police would like to thank the community for their prompt assistance in managing this incident,” A/Commander Jackson said.

“Our officers encourage people to get in touch with police about what’s going on in their community. If you report it, police will respond.”
