Northern Territory Police have charged a 21-year-old male with alleged aggravated assault in Peppimenarti.

Around 1:00am on Sunday, 23 December, the male attended the victim’s residence, struck him on the leg with an edged weapon and left the scene.

Police attended the victim’s residence shortly after. When police left the location to search for the offender, the offender returned and struck the victim to the face with an edged weapon resulting in injuries that required treatment but were not life threatening.

Police heard the disturbance from a distance and ran back to the victim’s address.

The offender was observed to be armed with multiple weapons. On sighting police, the offender threw an edged weapon at a police officer which fortunately missed. He continued towards police with another edged weapon in a threatening manner. The male ignored police directions to drop the weapons and ran off into nearby bushland.

The male surrendered to police and was arrested shortly after.

He has been charged with aggravated assault and being armed in public. He was bailed to an outstation and is required to appear in Wadeye Court on 15 January 2019.
