Update – Aggravated Assault – Alpurrurulam

Northern Territory Police have charged a 54-year-old male in relation to an alleged aggravated assault which occurred on the morning of 4 January, 2019.

Police believe the male attended the victim’s residence and struck him with a knife multiple times before leaving the area.

The victim was conveyed to the health clinic by family and later transferred to Mt Isa Hospital by Royal Flying Doctor Service. He remains in the Intensive Care Unit.

The 54-year-old presented to the clinic for medical assistance sometime after and was subsequently arrested by police.

Police investigators, crime scene examiners and general duties officers attended Alpurrurulam Community to investigate the assault.

The male has been charged with serious harm and was remanded in custody to appear in Alice Springs Local Court tomorrow.
