Charges – Traffic Offences – Darwin

Northern Territory Police have charged a 26-year-old male with traffic offences following a pursuit on Sunday, 6 January.

Around 11:00am police sighted the male on a motorcycle on Bennett Street, Darwin City. Police attempted to apprehend the male however he allegedly accelerated through a red traffic light. Police subsequently began a pursuit.

Further attempts to intercept the motorcycle rider were made however the pursuit was terminated due to public safety concerns.

Police enquiries ascertained the identity of the male. He was arrested by police at a residence less than an hour later.

Police allege the male also tested positive for methamphetamine.

He has been charged with:
• Drive vehicle in dangerous manner (pursuit) x2
• Drive unlicensed
• Drive with prohibited drug in blood
• Enter intersection against red traffic light x2
• Ride on footpath
• Fail to obey police direction (not stop)

He is due to appear in Darwin Local Court on 15 January.
