Concern for welfare - Southern Region

Police

Land and air assets have been deployed north of Alice Springs searching for a man reported as missing in the Ampilatwatja area.

Harold Morton, 44, was last seen walking away from the Ampilatwatja community in a northerly direction around 6am on Friday. A search of the immediate area was conducted by family members, but failed to locate Mr Morton. Family members reported him as missing in the area to police just after 7pm.

Mr Morton is considered as an experienced bushman, however police hold concerns for his welfare in the current severe hot weather.

Police have been liaising with the family to establish Mr Morton last known point and further land and air searches have been carried out this morning.

Harold is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, 175cm tall, with a skinny build and a greying beard and was wearing blue jeans, a blue and green polo shirt and runners.

Police urge anyone in the Ampilatwatja or Alparra area who may see Harold Morton or have information as to his location, to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
