Arrests – Operation Pelion

Northern Territory Police have arrested two youths as part of proactive policing efforts to stop commercial break-ins in Katherine.

Officers working on Operation Pelion allege the two males, aged 14 and 15, were involved in six unlawful entries at commercial premises in the region earlier this month.

The teenagers and their co-offenders entered a premises in Katherine East and stole two vehicles at approximately 1:00am on Saturday, 2 February. When police arrived at the scene, the offenders dumped the vehicles before fleeing into the surrounding bushland.

Police allege the group later broke into a further five premises and caused extensive damage.

The 14-year-old was arrested yesterday and has been granted bail to appear in Katherine Youth Justice Court on 15 February 2019.

He was charged with:

  • Unlawful Entry x 6
  • Criminal Damage x 6
  • Unlawful Use Motor Vehicle x 1
  • Stealing x 5

The 15-year-old was arrested on 9 February and is being considered for Youth Diversion.
