UPDATE: Charges - Murder - Galiwinku

The Northern Territory Police Force has now charged a 34-year-old man with murder following a recent death in Galiwinku.

Shortly after 11am on 6 July 2026, police received a report that a 17-year-old female was unconscious at a residence in the community. Local police, assisted by staff from the local health clinic, attended the scene, where she was declared deceased.

A 34-year-old man was arrested that day, with detectives from the Major Crime Section continuing investigations.

An autopsy was completed yesterday, and police have now charged the man with one count of Murder. He was remanded in custody and is expected to appear before Darwin Local Court tomorrow.

Investigations indicate the man was in a domestic relationship with the deceased at the time of her death.

Detective Acting Superintendent Paul Lawson said “This has been a complex investigation, and our investigations indicate the deceased has died of blunt forced injuries.

A young woman has lost her life, and our thoughts are with her family and community. Our local members remain in the community and are working closely with those affected. Police would like to thank the community for their assistance during this period.”

“A file will also be prepared for the Coroner.”
