Northern Territory Police have charged three people following an investigation into the alleged supply of drugs in Katherine.
During a combined operation over the weekend, with the Northern Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk and Dog Operations Unit, police allegedly observed drug transactions taking place from the rear fence of a residence on Gregory Court, Katherine East.
Police later intercepted several people who had allegedly purchased drugs and conducted searches under section 120C of the Police Administration Act 1978. A quantity of cannabis was allegedly located, including on a 15-year-old male.
Police executed a search warrant at the Gregory Court residence, arresting three alleged offenders.
During the search, police seized:
- Approximately 300 grams of cannabis, packaged into one-gram zip-lock bags and ounce bags;
- $4,030 in cash;
- Digital scales;
- Four mobile phones; and
- Other items consistent with drug supply.
All three, aged 21, 40 and 46-years-old, have been charged with:
- Supply of a dangerous drug to a child – less than commercial quantity;
- Supply of a dangerous drug – less than commercial quantity;
- Possessing a dangerous drug – traffickable quantity; and
- Receiving or possessing tainted property.
Detective Senior Sergeant Alan Green said targeting those who supply drugs within the community, particularly to young people, remains a priority for police.
"We will continue to target those who profit from supplying dangerous drugs in our communities. "
Police bail was refused for all three alleged offenders, who are expected to appear before the Katherine Local Court today.
