Hooning offences - Darwin

Police

The Northern Territory Police Force has impounded several cars over the past week in the Darwin area in response to separate hooning offenses.

On Friday, 23rd January, a white Ford falcon sedan was impounded by officers from the Territory Road Policing Division after conducting dangerous burnouts in the East Arm industrial area late in the evening. The driver was issued with an infringement notice and his car impounded for the mandatory 48 hours.

A further three vehicles have been impounded as a result of hooning offences committed on Monday, 26 January, two of which were involved in the Australia Day ute run.

A blue Ford Falcon utility was impounded after performing burnouts during the ute convoy on Lambrick Avenue and the driver was issued an infringement notice.

A Yellow HZ was also impounded after a dangerous driving incident where a full circle burnout was conducted on Lambrick Avenue in the vicinity of members of the public congregated on the side of the road.

The driver was later issued a Notice to Appear in Darwin Local Court for numerous offences.

In a separate incident on Monday, police received reports of a black Holden commodore utility conducting burnouts at a roundabout in Rosebery. That vehicle was subsequently impounded and also found to be defective.

Acting Senior Sergeant Aaron Evans from Territory Road Policing Division said, “We remind all road users that hooning behaviour is dangerous and will not be tolerated.

“Vehicles will be subject to seizure and impounding and the driver will receive further penalties as applicable under Territory law.

“We encourage members of the public to report hooning offences to Police on 131444 or anonymously through crime stoppers on 1800 333 000. If you capture footage on dashcam or mobile phone we also encourage you to come forward with that footage to assist us in our investigations.”
