The Northern Territory Police Force is calling for information in relation to an aggravated assault that occurred yesterday afternoon in Alice Springs.
Around 5:25pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received a report that a 20-year-old female had been physically assaulted while running in Stuart.
It is alleged the victim was running along the footpath adjacent to the Stuart Highway in the vicinity of Basso Road when she passed a 27-year-old male. The male allegedly struck her to the face causing injuries.
The victim ran home and the incident was immediately reported to police.
Alice Springs general duties responded, and the 27-year-old offender was arrested. He remains in police custody with charges expected to follow.
The victim attended the Alice Springs Hospital for treatment.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash cam or CCTV footage along the Stuart Highway in the vicinity of Basso Road between 5:15pm and 5:30pm yesterday is urged to contact police on 131 444. Please quote reference P26116184.
