Attempted arson – Rapid Creek

The Northern Territory Police Force is calling for information in relation to a fire that occurred at a residence in Rapid Creek early this morning.

Around 12:50am, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received reports of a fire at a residence on Rapid Creek Road in Rapid Creek. A trampoline at the front of the property was reportedly alight.

Police and NT Fire and Rescue Service attended, and the fire was extinguished.

The residence was occupied by one person at the time of the fire and a parked vehicle sustained minimal damage along with the trampoline. No injuries were reported to police.

A crime scene was established, and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire. At this stage, it is believed to be suspicious with a witness alleging that a person had thrown a lit jerry can into the front yard.

It is also alleged a white SUV was sighted leaving the area shortly before the fire was reported and police are interested in speaking to the occupants of the vehicle.
