Arrests – Stolen Motor Vehicle – Alice Springs

Police

Northern Territory Police have arrested eight youths following the theft of a vehicle and dangerous driving in the Alice Springs CBD early this morning.

About 1:00am, members of the Community Safety Engagement Team received reports of a group of youths driving dangerously through the CBD in a white Toyota Kluger.

Police reviewed CCTV footage which confirmed the vehicle had been stolen from a public carpark on Gregory Terrace at about 12:40am.

The stolen vehicle was later sighted travelling north on the Stuart Highway about 1:45am.

Tyre deflation devices were successfully deployed a short time later. The vehicle came to a stop, and eight offenders attempted to flee the scene on foot before being arrested by police.

After the occupants exited the vehicle, the Toyota Kluger rolled from the roadway into a nearby ditch.

The offending group were all female and comprised one 12-year-old, four 13-year-olds, and one each aged 15, 16 and 17. All were taken into custody.

Following investigations, the youths were later released without charge into the care of responsible adults.

The Youth Diversion Unit are continuing investigations into the incident.
