Youths charged for aggravated robbery and ram raid offences - Darwin

Police

Two youths have been charged following a series of offences across Darwin early this morning.

Yesterday afternoon, a 14-year-old male allegedly fled the courts and removed his electronic monitoring device prior to his court appearance. A warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest and police were notified.

Around 1:35am, the 14-year-old male and a female youth allegedly approached a man at a service station along Bagot Road, Coconut Grove. The male youth allegedly grabbed the victim from behind and demanded his vehicle keys before a struggle ensued. During the altercation the victim was dragged towards Bagot Road and narrowly avoided being struck by a passing vehicle.

The victim was then able to pull himself free before running a short distance from the location, with the alleged offenders following and threatening him with a knife and demanding his keys. The victim handed the offenders the keys and they fled the scene in his Toyota Camry.

A short time later, the stolen Toyota Camry was allegedly used to ram through fire escape doors at a business in Eaton, where the offenders entered the premises and stole a quantity of alcohol.

It is alleged the offenders then travelled to the Darwin Waterfront precinct where they used the vehicle to ram the doors of a convenience store and subsequently stole cigarettes and fled the scene in the scene.

Around 3:45am, officers from Strike Force Trident and the Dog Operations Unit sighted the Toyota Camry travelling through Coconut Grove and attempted to apprehend it; however, the vehicle failed to stop. A pursuit was initiated through Millner and back into Coconut Grove, where the vehicle was abandoned on Litchfield Court.
