Arrests - Stolen motor vehicles - Darwin

Police

The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested five adults in relation to a series of stolen motor vehicles across Darwin early Thursday morning.

Around 2am, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received a report that a green 80 Series Landcruiser had driven away without paying for fuel from a service station in Darwin City on Daly Street. The vehicle was later confirmed as stolen from an address in Darwin City.

The Landcruiser was then driven to a store on Virginia Road, where three males allegedly unlawfully entered and stole a large quantity of alcohol before fleeing the scene in the stolen vehicle and heading south along the Stuart Highway.

Around 6am, a white single-cab Toyota Hilux utility, reported stolen from an address in Malak, was observed leaving a service station in Berrimah without paying for fuel before also heading south on the Stuart Highway.

A short time later, Strike Force Trident and the Dog Operations Unit sighted the single-cab utility near Manton Dam and covertly followed the vehicle. A tyre deflation device was successfully deployed near Adelaide River at which time a short pursuit was initiated before the vehicle came to a stop. The sole occupant, a 23-year-old male, was arrested.

Later, at around 12pm, Peppimenarti Police intercepted the stolen Landcruiser about 50 kilometres west of Daly River and arrested three males aged 21, 22 and 31 and one female aged 24.

A large quantity of stolen alcohol was recovered from the vehicle at the time of the arrest.

All five offenders were charged with a number of property related offences.
