Arrests – Stolen motor vehicle – Alice Springs

Police

The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested two male youths in relation to a stolen motor vehicle incident that occurred earlier today in Alice Springs.

Around 11:40am, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received a report that a Toyota Hilux had been stolen in Hermannsburg and was travelling towards Alice Springs.

The Hilux was later observed being driven around the Alice Springs CBD and surrounding suburbs. The vehicle was fitted with a tracking device, which assisted a co-ordinated police response involving multiple units to locate the vehicle on Cora Crescent in Gillen.

The two male offenders, aged 12 and 13, initially fled from the vehicle but were arrested without incident on Bradshaw Drive after a short foot chase.

The 12-year-old will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act (2005), and the 13-year-old is expected to be charged later today.

Police continue to urge anyone who witnesses crime or anti-social behaviour to make contact on 131 444, or in an emergency dial 000. You can also report anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via https://crimestoppersnt.com.au/.
