Northern Territory Police have arrested a man after a woman was found deceased overnight.

Around 12:20am, police received reports from the 49-year-old man that a woman was unresponsive near the Todd River.

Emergency services attended the scene at the Todd River and the woman was declared deceased a short time later.

Officers attended a nearby location and arrested the man, who currently remains in custody. 

It is believed the woman is the 51-year-old partner of the man.

A crime scene remains open in the Todd River.
