Arrest - Aggravated assault - Alice Springs

Police

The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested a 23-year-old male following multiple domestic violence incidents that occurred yesterday evening in Alice Springs.

Around 8:30pm, an off-duty police officer witnessed a male allegedly punching a female multiple times to the head at a shopping complex on Lindsay Avenue, Eastside. The officer intervened, identified himself as an off-duty police officer, and attempted to restrain the alleged offender.

Another male then pulled the officer away, allowing the offender to flee the scene on foot. The off-duty officer checked on the victim’s welfare before leaving the location to commence their shift.

The male and female are believed to be known to each other.

A short time later, police received reports that the alleged offender had attended the residence where the victim was staying and again assaulted her before fleeing the scene prior to police arrival.

Police attended and coordinated a plan to arrest the male, anticipating he would return to the residence.

The 23-year-old male returned to the residence, and police arrested him at the scene. He remains in police custody with charges expected to follow.
