UPDATE: Charges – Domestic violence – Coconut Grove

Police

Northern Territory Police have charged a man in connection with serious domestic violence incidents and a disturbance in Coconut Grove earlier this week.

Between the 30 may 2024 and 5 June 2024, police will alleged that the 29-year-old man assaulted his female partner multiple times. Police had been actively searching for him when he was located in Ludmilla on 6 June 2024. During the arrest the 29-year-old allegedly escaped and ran into nearby bushland.  

He was re-located on Wednesday 12 June 2024 around 3:45pm in Coconut Grove and allegedly attempted to flee by trying to enter vehicles travelling along Dick Ward Drive. A cordon was established and after a short foot pursuit, he was arrested after police deployed a taser.

He remains in custody and has since been charged with:

•             5x Aggravated Assault

•             5x Engage in Conduct that Contravenes DVO

•             1x Threat to kill a person

•             1x Choking, Strangling & Suffocating

•             1x Escape Lawful Custody

•             1x Resist Police in Execution of Duty

•             1x Damage to Property

He has been remanded to appear before Darwin Local Court today.

Senior Sergeant Robin Kidney said, “ This was a prolonged, violent incident and this sort of behaviour is completely reprehensible. NT Police will continue to work tirelessly to hold domestic violence offenders accountable.

“Officers believe this individual was attempting to enter multiple vehicles on Dick Ward Drive and we are continuing to urge motorists who were targeted to come forward and make a statement.”
