UPDATE: Arrests - Operation KAPOK

Following on from last week, Operation KAPOK detectives from the Drug & Organised Crime Division have continued to target a criminal syndicate involved in the supply of commercial quantities of methamphetamine.

On 8 April 2024, detectives executed a search warrant at a rural property in Bees Creek, resulting in the seizure of 500 grams of methamphetamine and the arrest of two women, aged 32 and 68.

The 68 year old women was charged with the possession and supply of a commercial quantity of a schedule 1 dangerous drug.

The 32 year old women was also charged with the possession and supply of a commercial quantity of a schedule 1 dangerous drug, along with the following offences associated with the execution of a series of search warrants on 26 March 2024 and 3 April 2024, that resulted in the seizure of a commercial quantity of methamphetamine, cash and firearms:

Possess schedule 1 dangerous drug – commercial quantity
Supply schedule 1 dangerous drug – commercial quantity
Possess schedule 1 dangerous drug – traffickable quantity
Receive or possess property obtained in the commission of an offence
Possess or use a prohibited firearm x 2
Fail to meet storage requirements
Possess ammunition without a permit/licence
Possess a thing to administer dangerous drug

Both women appeared in the Darwin Local Court on 9 April 2024 and have been remanded in custody to appear at a later date.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Timothy Gardiner said “Intercepting half a kilogram of methamphetamine from entering our community and reaching our vulnerable members is a testament to the tireless efforts of our dedicated detectives. The significance of these interventions cannot be overstated, as they deliver a significant blow to the illicit drug trade in the Northern Territory.

“These operations protect our community against organised crime, which preys on the suffering caused by these dangerous substances, leading to addiction and crime. The Northern Territory Police will persist in the fight to ensure the safety of our community.”
