Police

The Northern Territory Police has today welcomed 34 new recruits embarking on their policing journey with Recruit Constable Squad 157.

These recruits, over half of whom are proud Territorians, have committed themselves to a career that will see them making a real difference across the Territory.

The squad commenced on 29 July and will officially join the ranks as Constables on 7 March 2025 after successfully completing their assessments and training requirements. These recruits will join teams across the NT.

Before the end of 2024, 24 Constables, 13 Watch House Auxiliaries and l7 Communications Auxiliaries are expected to join the ranks. The Watch House Recruit Auxiliaries from Squad 89 are the first contingent in a long time that has completed their course in Alice Springs as a result of an intensive recruitment drive to get locals to learn and serve and protect in their own community.

Currently, there are 78 recruits undergoing training at the NT Police College. This includes 58 Constable recruits and 20 Auxiliary recruits, all of whom are preparing to take on the challenges and responsibilities of policing in our unique environment. They will join the 288 officers who have graduated in since July 2023.

There are a number of upcoming recruit squads scheduled to commence throughout the end of the year, welcoming driven, enthusiastic and selfless people to join the NT Police family to continue to build our police presence. These include:

  • Constable Accelerated Recruitment Program (ARP) Squad 2: Commencing on 19 August 2024, graduating on 6 December 2024.
  • Auxiliary Communications Squad 90: Commencing on 26 August 2024, graduating on 15 November 2024.
