Northern Territory Police are urging Territorians to reflect on Domestic and Family Violence as we come into 2025.
Sadly, statistics reveal that over the last decade, New Year’s Day has seen the highest number of reported incidents of domestic and family violence. This is a stark reminder of the danger many face during what should be a time of celebration.
This year, Northern Territory Police have already recorded over 42,000 occurrences of domestic and family violence – up from 38,000 last year and a significant increase from 15,000 in 2010. These numbers highlight the urgent need for change.
Commander Brendan Muldoon said “It is well known that a huge portion of frontline police work is directly related to Domestic and Family Violence. It is also a known catalyst for other offending including property crime and anti-social behaviour.
“Enough is enough."
