Northern Territory Police were called to the scene of a fatal crash overnight, where an 18-year-old man lost his life.

Around 10.45pm, police responded to reports that a vehicle had collided with a tree on Bougainvilia Avenue in East Side. The man was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

St John Ambulance attended and gave initial medical treatment, while Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Services worked to free the man from the vehicle.

He was subsequently conveyed to Alice Springs Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Initial investigations indicate alcohol and illicit drugs may be contributing factors, and investigations are ongoing.
