Northern Territory Police are currently searching for missing 64-year-old man on the Larapinta Trail in Alice Springs.

A search operation has been underway on the Larapinta Trail since 9am this morning, with the Police Search and Rescue Section vehicles and foot teams along with a helicopter.

Police are also being assisted by the Larapinta Trail Trek Support Team and local Ranger groups.

He set off alone on the Larapinta Trail on Monday 13 May 2024, about 240km west of Alice Springs and travelling east along the trail towards Alice Springs.

He is said to be an experienced hiker with adequate food and water and described as 6ft tall, slim build, fair skin, light brown/greying hair and wearing a blue broad brimmed hat.

He was last heard from via text message on Tuesday 21 May 2024, reporting that he had planned to be at Hugh Gorge by the Wednesday the 22 May 2024.

He was expected to have made contact, however, has not checked back into his hotel and remains outstanding.

Police hold concerns for his welfare and are seeking information from the public as to his intentions or sightings. Please contact police on 131 444.
