Call for information - Fatal pedestrian strike – Stuarts Well

Northern Territory Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian strike near Stuarts Well last night.

Around 7:30pm, a woman was struck by a road train traveling south along the Stuart highway, 90km south of Alice Springs.

The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and contacted police. Emergency services confirmed the woman was deceased upon arrival.

A crime scene was declared and the Stuart Highway in both directions was closed overnight. Traffic controls remain in place and motorists are advised to expect delays throughout the morning.

Detective Acting Superintendent Karl Day said “ Major Crash Investigators  believe an unknown vehicle was parked on the northbound side of the highway shortly before the crash occurred, with the vehicle fleeing the scene just after the crash.

“Police are urging anyone travelling along the Stuart Highway south of Alice Springs last night, who has dash cam footage, to make contact with police on 131 444 and quote reference P24213936.”
