Call for information – Animal cruelty – Darwin

Northern Territory Police are calling for information after an animal cruelty incident occurred in Darwin overnight.

Around 11:30pm, police received a report that two youths had allegedly unlawfully entered a business on Mitchell Street and killed two turtles and injured four others. One turtle remains unaccounted for.

Detectives from Strike Force Trident attended the business this morning and identified the point of entry over a railing from an adjacent venue.

Veterinarians are currently treating the four injured turtles. 

The alleged offenders are believed to be under the age of 10.

Investigations are ongoing.

Senior Sergeant Dale Motter-Barnard said, “This behaviour is shocking and completely unacceptable.

“Violence and cruelty in all forms has no place in our community.

“We encourage anyone with information, particularly those with CCTV in the area to contact police on 131 444 or report anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Please quote reference number P24337715.”
