Northern Territory Police are calling for information after an aggravated assault occurred in Darwin CBD early this morning.

Around 1:28am, police received reports that a male had been assaulted with an edged weapon after approaching a vehicle on Mitchell Street and speaking to the driver.

The alleged offender fled the scene in a silver Nissan Navara.

St John Ambulance attended the scene and conveyed the victim to Royal Darwin Hospital to receive treatment for his injuries.

A crime scene was established on Mitchell Street between Peel Street and Mott Circuit.

Investigations remain ongoing.
