Arrests - Stolen motor vehicles and pursuit - Darwin

Northern Territory Police have arrested 3 male youths in relation to a robbery and stolen motor vehicle that occurred on Saturday in Nightcliff.

Around 9:50pm, police received reports that 3 youths had entered a residence on Oleander Street armed with an edged weapon and allegedly threatened the elderly occupants before stealing car keys and a quantity of cash. The youths then fled the scene in the stolen vehicles from the residence.

One of the vehicles was later located abandoned in Malak.

A short time later, Strike Force Trident located the second stolen vehicle and engaged it in a pursuit through Karama which was terminated for safety reasons.

At a later time, tyre deflation devices were successfully deployed on the stolen motor vehicle in Bees Creek and a second pursuit was initiated. The pursuit made its way from the rural area towards the Northern Suburbs and ended when the vehicle mounted a curb and came to a stop on Vanderlin Drive. A 17-year-old youth fled from the vehicle and was apprehended hiding in nearby bushland by Patrol Dog Drax. Two 13-year-old youths were arrested from within the vehicle.

All youths were charged with numerous property related offences and have been remanded in custody to appear in Court today.

Detective Sergeant Dale Motter-Barnard said “This was a traumatic experience for the elderly residents and incredibly dangerous incident for everyone on the roads at the time of this offending.

“We would like to thank everyone who has already provided information and would urge anyone with relevant dash cam or mobile phone footage to contact police on 131 444.”
