Northern Territory Police have arrested 8 youths and one adult in relation to a stolen motor vehicle yesterday morning.

Around 6:50am, police received information that a stolen vehicle was being driven around the rural area between Elizabeth River and Berry Springs.

Strike Force Trident and Dog Operations Unit (DOU) quickly responded to the incident and a tyre deflation device was successfully deployed, bringing the vehicle to a stop. The alleged offenders subsequently fled on foot into bushland adjacent from Elrundie Avenue.

Following protracted tracking, Trident and DOU (Patrol Dogs Wedge, Drax and Cheeko) located and arrested 9 alleged offenders, 5 of which were hiding in a tree.

Four male youths and one 18-year-old female have been charged with property related offences. Four youths will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act 2005.

Detective Sergeant Dale Motter-Barnard said “Once again these arrests are the result of the quick collaborative work between Trident, Dog Ops and General Duties.

“Patrol Dogs Wedge, Drax and Cheeko were instrumental in both tracking the alleged offenders and facilitating a safe arrest.”
