Northern Territory Police have arrested 2 males in relation to separate serious property and violent offending in Katherine.

It is alleged that a 19-year-old male assaulted his partner on 26 March in Katherine. He then allegedly assaulted another female on 1 June and has actively evaded police.   

On 29 June, Strike Force Cerberus and Katherine General Duties members located and arrested the 19-year-old for Aggravated Assault and several outstanding warrants. He has been charged and is remanded in custody, to appear in court at a later date.

It is also alleged that the 16-year-old male youth was identified as the driver of a stolen motor vehicle. The vehicle was later abandoned in bushland 2km Northeast of the Katherine CBD. On 18 June, the same 16-year-old youth allegedly assaulted his partner causing her harm. 

He subsequently evaded police.

On 30 June, Strike Force Cerberus and Katherine General Duties members located and arrested the 16-year-old youth in Katherine South.

He has been charged with:

1 x Unlawful Driving of a Motor Vehicle

1 x Driving While Unlicensed

2 x Damage to Property

1 x Aggravated Assault

1 x Breach Domestic Violence Order

1x Fail to Furnish Name 

The youth has been remanded in custody to appear in court at a later date.

Acting Senior Sergeant Stephen Jones said “Property crime, domestic violence and violent offending at any level is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

“The ripple effect is significant. Those who perpetrate such offending will be dealt with as swiftly as possible.”
