Arrests – Alcohol Seizure – Alice Springs

Police

Northern Territory Police have seized a large quantity of alcohol destined for remote communities on Saturday.

At 8.45pm police received intel of vehicles allegedly transporting a large quantity of alcohol into the Northern Territory from South Australia.

Police identified and intercepted three vehicles travelling together 30km south of Alice Springs.

The vehicles were seized, and a subsequent lawful search of them discovered a large quantity of alcohol. The following was seized:

  • 99 x 4L Casks of Wine
  • 23 x 1L Bottles of Spirits
  • 10 x 330ml Premixed Drinks

The three female drivers, aged 28, 35, and 55, were arrested and issued a Notice to Appear for the 15 August 2024.

The seized alcohol was transported to Alice Springs Watch House where it was destroyed.

Acting Superintendent Robert Griffiths said, “The impacts of alcohol related harm within the Northern Territory is well recorded. For persons to believe they can profit from causing further harm to those within their own community beggars belief.

“Police will continue to engage with our cross-border colleagues to proactively reduce harm and hold those who intend to harm those within our community to account. The collaborative approach has undoubtedly reduced significant harm in our most vulnerable remote communities within Central Australia.”

Anyone with information on the supply of alcohol or drugs into remote communities can call police on 131 444 or make an anonymous report to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
