Arrest – Stolen motor vehicle crash – Darwin

Northern Territory Police have arrested one male in relation to a stolen motor vehicle crash in The Gardens yesterday evening.

Around 5pm, police received reports of a stolen motor vehicle driving erratically and subsequently colliding with the back of a stationary vehicle at the intersection on Gardens Drive and Gilruth Avenue.

Police attended the crash and located three adult males inside the vehicle.

The 30-year-old driver returned a positive breath test at the scene and was placed under arrest before being taken to Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) with non-life-threatening injuries. 

The other occupants were also conveyed to RDH and assessed as suffering non-life-threatening injuries.

Further investigation indicated the group had allegedly stolen alcohol from a licenced premises on Buffalo Court a short time before the crash.

The driver remains in custody with charges expected to follow.

**This release has been amended as initial reports indicated there was an infant in the vehicle. This was later found to be incorrect. There were only 3 adult males inside the vehicle at the time of the collision.  Amended 1 August 12:10pm **
