Northern Territory Police have arrested a man in relation to allegations of public indecency in front of multiple victims since August 2024.
The man is alleged to have exposed himself and acted indecently towards several females who were undertaking exercise activities in the vicinity of the staircase connecting the Darwin Esplanade to Jervois Road on dates in August, October and November.
A combined effort involving officers from the Territory Safety Division (TSD), Territory Intelligence, Crime Command and Police CCTV operators obtaining evidence from multiple victims, Police CCTV and other sources, resulted in the execution of a search warrant and the subsequent arrest of a man at his residence in the Darwin CBD yesterday.
The man, aged 25, was charged with:
- 3 x Public masturbation
- 3 x Indecent touching or act
He was bailed to appear in Darwin Local Court on 4 February 2025.
Acting Senior Sergeant of the Territory Safety Division Alex Noonan said “This type of offending is disgusting and taken incredibly seriously by the NT Police Force. This arrest was the result of a concerted effort from multiple police units to identify and apprehend the alleged offender. This behaviour is completely unacceptable and women should be free to exercise and move around in public spaces without being exposed to such indecent acts.
“Police would like to commend the victims who came forward. Their statements were vital in ensuring police had the information needed to make this arrest.
