Arrest – Domestic violence – Fannie Bay

Police

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 41-year-old male in relation to a domestic violence incident in Fannie Bay on Thursday evening.

Around 5:30pm, police received reports that a male had allegedly assaulted a female at the entrance of the East Point Reserve.

A short time later, Darwin General Duties attended the scene, located the victim, and identified the alleged offender as her partner.

She suffered non-life threatening injuries as a result of the assault.

The 41-year-old alleged offender then entered the ocean to evade police and began struggling to swim. An attending officer removed his accoutrements and swam to provide aid and secure him back on land.

The officer received minor injuries to his feet.

The victim, offender and the officer were conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital for assessment.

The offender remains under police guard and is expected to be charged later today.

Commander Daniel Bacon said “ I commend the brave and quick thinking actions of the officer who, without hesitating, risked his own life to save another.”
