Arrest – Burglary – Alice Springs

Police

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 16-year-old youth after a burglary in Alice Springs last night.

Around 7.30pm, police received reports that 3 males had unlawfully entered a residence on Aneura Place.

The homeowner, who was out at the time, was notified of the break-in via personal security cameras fitted at the property. The owner returned home and was able to apprehend one of the offenders while the other two fled the scene.

Police arrived on the scene shortly afterwards and arrested the youth.

He remains in custody and is expected to be charged later today with Aggravated Burglary, Theft and Damage to Property.

Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Budge said, “I commend this homeowner for ensuring their property was secure and surveyable via CCTV cameras, which have provided vital evidence for our investigations into the alleged offenders.

“Police always urge residences to contact triple zero as a priority when someone is unlawfully attempting to enter your property, which this resident did. Engaging with offenders always comes with risk, but in this case thankfully no one was injured.”
