Northern Territory Police are investigating the death of a young child after being reported missing yesterday.

The missing child was reported to police yesterday afternoon with an initial search and rescue response being launched.

However, the child was located deceased later that afternoon, a short distance from the residence.

Police are working with the family. Investigations are ongoing and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
