Northern Territory Police have charged a 42-year-old man after seizing a total of $121,752 in cash following an investigation on his alleged drug trafficking into a remote East Arnhem Region community.

The Drug and Organised Crime Section and Dog Operations Unit intercepted the man at the remote airport as he was trying to leave the community and executed a search warrant.

Police officers located and seized a large quantity of cash and a mobile device.

He was arrested and charged with supply commercial quantity schedule 2 dangerous drug and receive or possess property/commission of an offence.

Detective Senior Sergeant Wayne Newell said “The carriage of illicit substances into any community, but more particularly vulnerable remote communities in the Northern Territory, is an extremely serious offence.

“This is a very large quantity of money exiting a small remote community which reflects the affect that this unlawful process has over the vulnerable.”
