Northern Territory Police have charged a man in relation to numerous drug offences near Alice Springs yesterday.

At 5:50am, detectives from the Drug and Organised Crime Unit apprehended a vehicle 50km south of Alice Springs on the Stuart Highway.

A search of the Ford Falcon found:

•          Approximately 8kgs of cannabis

•          1.5g of methamphetamine

•          1g of heroin

•          45 x Valium tablets

•          An extendable baton

•          Items indicative of drug supply

The 53-year-old man was arrested at the scene and a search warrant was executed on his residence in Braitling, where the following was also seized:

•          Approximately 180g pf cannabis

•          $4,910 Cash

•          43 x Valium tablets

•          Items indicative of drug supply

Detectives have since charged the man with:

•          Possess commercial quantity schedule 2 dangerous drug

•          Supply commercial quantity schedule 2 dangerous drug

•          Possess schedule 1 dangerous drug less than traffickable quantity

•          Possess schedule 1 dangerous drug less than traffickable quantity

•          Possess tainted property

•          Unauthorised possession schedule 4 substance

•          Possess/carry/use controlled weapon

•          Possess traffickable quantity schedule 2 dangerous drug

He was remanded to appear in Alice Springs Local Court today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Wayne Newell said “The supply of illicit substances into our community, particularly vulnerable remote areas, has a devastating effect. Illicit substances are often a catalyst for domestic violence and property offences.  

“This was fantastic work by investigators and I commend their efforts in removing this substance from our community. Police will continue to proactively disrupt the supply of drugs into the Territory.
