Arrest – Domestic violence and assault police – Darwin

Northern Territory Police have arrested a man in relation to a domestic violence and assault police incident that occurred overnight.

Around 2am, emergency services received reports of a domestic violence incident on Litchfield Court, Coconut Grove. Upon arrival, police identified a 24-year-old male offender who was attempting to flee the scene in a vehicle.

The offender allegedly reversed the vehicle with his driver-side door open, striking a female officer.

 The offender lost control of the vehicle a short distance away and was subsequently arrested. He remains in police custody with charges expected later today.

The officer and the female victim of the alleged domestic violence assault were treated on scene by paramedics. The officer was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital for further assessment.

Territory Duty Superintendent Tanya Mace said “Thankfully, the victim and our officer weren’t seriously injured during this incident.

“Our officers are on the streets every day, putting their lives at risk, protecting and serving the community. Assaults on anybody, including police members, are completely unacceptable and this individual will faces charges for it.
