Vehicle seized - Reckless driving - Alice Springs

Police

A vehicle which is alleged to have driven at high speeds and in a reckless manner before driving at police in the Alice Springs CBD, has been seized and impounded by Northern Territory Police.

At 11:18pm an orange Nissan 350Z coupe was observed by members travelling at high speed along Gregory Terrace and Hartley Street before accelerating hard and losing traction with road surface and driving at police officers at speed, who had to dive behind their vehicle for safety.

Officers attempted to intercept the vehicle on two occasions, during which it is alleged the vehicle swerved across four lanes of traffic and drove on the wrong side of the road before turning onto Bath Street.

The vehicle drove off at speed, breaching a red traffic light turning onto Stott Terrace travelling towards Larapinta Drive before members lost sight of the vehicle.

Southern K9 Unit observed the vehicle travelling on Bloomfield Street and park outside a property when a single occupant fled the vehicle.

Under the Traffic Act 1987, the vehicle was seized for hooning offences and will be impounded for a 48 hour period.

A 39-year-old man is currently assisting police with inquiries in relation to the driver of the vehicle.
