UPDATE: Structure fire – Berrimah

Fire and Rescue

Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service have been investigating the circumstances surrounding a structure fire that occurred in Berrimah last month.

Crews were called to the scene before midday after receiving reports of a building on fire at College Road.

It took several hours to extinguish the fire and the building continued to smoulder for a number of days.

Fire investigators had limited access inside the building in the early stages due to structural instability. The majority of the building was severely damaged with a large portion of the roof collapsing.

Acting Deputy Chief Fire Officer Joshua Fischer said, “There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire with the determined cause being accidental.

“The source of the fire was a malfunction of an electrical item.

“I’d like to thank our JESCC staff who received numerous calls regarding the incident and our career firefighters who worked tirelessly to protect neighbouring assets so that the fire did not spread.”
