Traffic operation - Central Australia

Police

The Road Policing Division issued a number of infringements following a recent road safety operation in Alice Springs.

Members from the Darwin Traffic Operations unit also travelled to the Red Centre to assist during the Red Centre NATS.

Over a three-day period, the operation resulted in:

  • 47 traffic infringements
  • 7 defect notices
  • 7 notices to appear
  • 16 arrests
  • 7 drug drivers; and
  • 4 drink drivers

Superintendent Peter Malley said: “The majority of the community were well behaved over the weekend however, there were still people who engaged in reckless behaviour behind the wheel.

“This is a reminder to the public, that despite this event being about drag racing and street parades, it’s important that you do not risk your life or the lives of others and act irresponsibly on the roads.”
