Recruit Firefighter Squad 47 commences

Fire and Rescue

Recruit Firefighter Squad 47 are scheduled to commence their 19-week training course next week.

The 12 new recruits will be put through intensive training covering a breadth of skills including live fire behaviour, fire suppression techniques, wildfire, road crash rescue, technical rescue, and hazardous materials management.

Acting Deputy Chief Fire Officer Joshua Fischer said: “The commencement of this squad is a welcomed addition to the service.

“They will all be tested against the high standards the Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service expects of its firefighters to ensure they’re ready to respond to the vast range of emergencies or disasters they could be called to”

The team will encounter some challenging course elements, particularly as the Top End wet season approaches. With the weight of personal protective clothing and equipment on top of the already physically demanding components of the course, it is not a simple task to complete during this time.

“But they will have a great deal of assistance completing their course thanks to their high level of fitness and the mentorship of their course coordinator, instructors, and liaisons”

“Once their training is complete, these future firefighters will become part of the Territory’s frontline, ready to answer the call for help when our communities that we serve and protect needs them most”

Recruitment for the next squad will begin in early October 2022, with a planned commencement in April 2023.

“Being a Territory firefighter is no ordinary career, I wish all the recruits well with their training and rewarding careers ahead,” Mr Fischer said.
