Hit and Run – Darwin City

Police

Northern Territory Police are investigating a hit and run incident in Darwin City last night.  A woman, who was lying on the road, was struck by a vehicle and run over.

Just after 8pm police received reports of the incident on Lindsay Street in the Darwin CBD. Police and St John NT attended, and the woman was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses in the area reported the incident to police after the driver of the vehicle failed to stop and drove away.

The road was closed to facilitate the establishment of a crime scene. Major Crash detectives have recorded evidence at the scene overnight, and the road has since reopened.

Detectives from the Major Crash and Crime divisions are investigating the incident.

The vehicle is described as a white sedan.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said, “A team of detectives are currently investigating the incident, including reviewing the network of CCTV cameras throughout the CBD.

“We appeal to the driver to do the right thing now and make contact with police.  It is only a matter of time before we identify your vehicle.”

Police are appealing for witnesses who can assist the investigation, or any passengers or others with knowledge of the driver or vehicle, to contact 131444 and quote PROMIS 9926699.
